Raissa Tatad-Hazell

Deputy Regional Director for Asia Programs at National Democratic Institute

Raissa Tatad-Hazell is the deputy regional director for Asia programs at the National Democratic Institute (NDI). Since 2001, she has supported NDI’s democratic development programs in Afghanistan, Burma, Cambodia, Indonesia, Korea, Malaysia, Mongolia, Nepal, Pakistan, the Philippines, Sri Lanka and Timor-Leste. From 2010 to 2014, she served as NDI’s Washington-DC based Director for Afghanistan and Pakistan Programs. She managed the Institute's largest country program portfolios in the Asia region and the design and implementation of election support and observation missions, democratic governance and political party strengthening programs, and initiatives to engage women and young people in political life. Before joining NDI, Ms. Tatad-Hazell worked for the Senate of the Republic of the Philippines as executive liaison to the majority leader and legislative staff on the Committee on Foreign Relations. She has worked on electoral and political campaigns in the Philippines, and been involved in multiple regional efforts in Asia to promote women and youth empowerment. Ms. Tatad-Hazell received a M.A. from the Fletcher School of Law and Diplomacy, and B.A. from the School of Economics of the University of the Philippines.
