Sara Carillo has extensive experience in the field of bioprocessing and bioanalytical research, currently serving as the Bioanalytical Research Lead and Application Development Team Lead at NIBRT National Institute for Bioprocessing Research and Training since May 2015. Prior to this role, Sara held the position of Postdoctoral Researcher at NIBRT. Sara began their career in research as a Research Assistant at University College Dublin from June 2014 to May 2015. Educationally, Sara obtained a Doctor of Philosophy (PhD) in Organic Chemistry, a Master's degree in Chemical Sciences, and a Bachelor's degree in Chemical Sciences, all from Università degli Studi di Napoli Federico II, completing the degrees between 2003 and 2013.

The National Institute for Bioprocessing Research and Training (NIBRT) is a global centre of excellence for training and research in bioprocessing. NIBRT is located in a new, world class facility in Dublin, Ireland. This facility is purpose built to closely replicate a modern bioprocessing plant with state of the art equipment. NIBRT is based on an innovative collaboration between University College Dublin, Trinity College Dublin, Dublin City University and the Institute of Technology, Sligo.
