Chris Chainey is an accomplished financial executive with extensive experience in chief financial and operational roles across various organizations. Currently serving as Chief Financial Officer at Natural Hazards Commission Toka Tū Ake since December 2022, Chris previously held the position of Chief Operating Officer at the Registered Master Builders Association and was Acting National Manager Finance & Procurement at Fire and Emergency NZ. Notably, Chris spent nearly eight years at The Earthquake Commission, where responsibilities included overseeing the Risk and Financing Group as Chief Financial Officer and managing financial operations in the capacity of Financial Controller. Prior experience at the Royal Bank of Scotland spanned several leadership roles in budgeting, forecasting, and decision support. The Natural Hazards Commission Toka Tu Ake is New Zealand’s unique response to its geological environment. NHC Toka Tū Ake provides insurance cover for damage to residential property caused by earthquakes, landslips, volcanic eruptions, hydrothermal activity and tsunamis. All New Zealanders with home and/or contents insurance automatically receive NHCover. Other key functions include: Administering the Natural Disaster Fund, facilitating and supporting research to help build understanding of natural disasters and how to mitigate damage, and implementing education initiatives using school programmes, advertising and collateral.
