Laura McVicker is an experienced professional with a strong background in portfolio management and organizational change. Currently serving as the Manager of Portfolio Planning and Change at the Natural Hazards Commission Toka Tū Ake since July 2023, Laura also holds the acting role of Head of EPMO and previously worked as a Senior Portfolio Analyst. Prior to this, Laura accumulated over a decade of experience at the Ministry of Social Development from November 2011 to July 2023, where roles included Portfolio Manager, Change Manager, and Advisor in the Business Change and Implementation Team for a major transformation program. Additional responsibilities encompassed managing information support as well as customer service representation.

The Natural Hazards Commission Toka Tu Ake is New Zealand’s unique response to its geological environment. NHC Toka Tū Ake provides insurance cover for damage to residential property caused by earthquakes, landslips, volcanic eruptions, hydrothermal activity and tsunamis. All New Zealanders with home and/or contents insurance automatically receive NHCover. Other key functions include: Administering the Natural Disaster Fund, facilitating and supporting research to help build understanding of natural disasters and how to mitigate damage, and implementing education initiatives using school programmes, advertising and collateral.
