Max Schachter has been a national school safety advocate since his son Alex was murdered in the Parkland school shooting on Valentine’s Day 2018. He currently serves as the executive director of Safe Schools for Alex and The Alex Schachter Scholarship Fund. Since the heartbreaking day that changed Max’s life forever, he has been fighting for policy change at both the state and federal level. Max has worked to make Florida’s schools safer by serving as a commissioner on the Marjory Stoneman Douglas High School Public Safety Commission formed by former Governor Rick Scott. He has worked as a school safety consultant for the United States Secret Service and the Ohio Attorney General’s office. Max has been a keynote speaker for many national law enforcement organizations and is a member of the National Sheriff’s Association School Safety and Security Committee.
