Darren Thomas has a diverse work experience spanning over 24 years. Darren began their career as a Student Chemical Engineer at Gulf Oil in 1996 and later worked as a Graduate Chemical Engineer at Croda for two years. After that, they joined PB Gelatins UK Ltd as a Project Engineer for five years. In 2005, they joined Dow Corning where they worked as a Process Chemical Manufacturing Engineer and Commissioning Engineer for eleven years. During this time, they gained expertise in various process technologies and provided technical leadership to ensure production and quality targets were met. In 2016, Darren Thomas joined Navigator Terminals as a Terminal Engineer and was later promoted to Terminal Engineering Manager in 2017. Darren was responsible for leading engineering and maintenance works, ensuring compliance with relevant legislation, and serving as a Certified Functional Safety Engineer for the site.
Darren Thomas CEng MIChemE completed their Bachelor of Engineering (BEng) degree in Chemical Engineering at the University of South Wales from 1994 to 1998. In addition to their academic qualifications, they have obtained several certifications to further enhance their skills and expertise. These certifications include being a Chartered Chemical Engineer from the Institution of Chemical Engineers (IChemE) since July 2021, Lean Six Sigma Yellow Belt Certification from the Lean Competency System in June 2021, Prince2 Practitioner Certificate in Project Management from BCS, The Chartered Institute for IT in October 2016, Six Sigma Black Belt from Dow Corning in July 2014, NEBOSH National General Certificate (with distinction) from NEBOSH in August 2004, Functional Safety Engineer in Safety Instrumented Systems from TÜV Rheinland Group in December 2019, and Tank Assessor EEMUA 159 from EEMUA in February 2018. Additionally, they recently obtained the Effective Alarm Management - Practitioner Level certification from ABB in May 2022.

Navigator Terminals is an independent bulk liquid storage provider with over 1.28 million cubic metres (cbm) of storage capacity. Formed in 2016, Navigator operates four terminals, each strategically located in major UK ports and serving key demand centres within the UK. Across these locations we are able to offer our customer’s unique storage solutions for crude, petroleum, aviation, chemical, bitumen, liquefied gas and biofuel products. Our extensive knowledge and experience of handling such a wide range of specialist products shows our versatility in adapting to ever-changing markets. With state-of-the-art petrol blending facilities and industry-leading road loading racks, we can ensure that our customers have the best experience in the country. Our terminals are pipeline-connected to local chemical manufacturing facilities and gas processing plants and each facility has been approved as a Upper Tier COMAH site. Our priority is to ensure the safe operation of its facilities, to deliver continuous product availability and to provide the highest level of customer service. We will continue to invest in infrastructure both at existing and new facilities to enable us to maintain these priorities and ensure our customers are able to grow and succeed. We have a well-trained and knowledgeable management team with over 200 years operating experience in the sector.
