Velma V Taormina, MD MSE FACOG, currently serves as the Medical Director for the Family Planning Program at Mecklenburg County Health Department since March 2023 and as an Associate Medical Director Consultant for Women's Health at the NC Department of Health and Human Services since August 2020, focusing on women's health within the Division of Health Benefits (NC Medicaid). Prior experience includes serving as the Medical Director for Gaston County Department of Health & Human Services from August 2004 to December 2019 and as Interim Medical Director for Alamance County Health Department from June 2016 to October 2016. Velma V Taormina holds a Doctor of Medicine degree from Texas Tech University Health Sciences Center - School of Medicine, a Master of Science in Engineering from The University of Texas at Austin, and a Bachelor of Arts in Biology from The University of Texas at Austin.
