Francesco Carpanese, Ph.D, serves as a Postdoctoral Researcher at EPFL since January 2025, focusing on physics and data-driven models for plasma control and disruption mitigation. Prior to this role, Francesco worked at Commonwealth Fusion Systems as a Plasma Physicist and Software Developer, contributing to software platforms for plasma magnetic equilibrium simulation. Francesco also held positions at Neural Concept, initially as an IT Operations Manager and later as a Senior Machine Learning Application Engineer, leading the development of AI/ML applications. Earlier experience includes an internship at DeepMind as a Research Engineer, specializing in deep reinforcement learning for tokamak control. Francesco earned a Ph.D in Numerical Plasma Physics from EPFL and holds a Master of Science in Nuclear Engineering from Politecnico di Milano, along with additional studies in plasma physics and engineering.
