Gary Smith

Gary Smith is an experienced professional in the field of High Performance Computing and systems engineering, currently serving as HPC Senior Engineer II at New England Biolabs since May 2022. Prior to this role, Gary held the position of Associate Director for High Performance Computing at Vertex Pharmaceuticals from July 2009 to February 2022, where responsibilities included leading HPC initiatives and engineering complex parallel systems. Gary’s extensive background includes serving as a Principal UNIX Architect at AstraZeneca, where UNIX infrastructure was designed and maintained, as well as earlier positions as a System Administrator at Open Market and Dana-Farber Cancer Institute. Gary began a professional career at M/A-COM as a Draftsman/System Administrator. Educational qualifications include a Bachelor of Science in Computer Science from Boston University.
