Gianne Gerena

Gianne Gerena is an accomplished public health professional with extensive experience in health education and program management. Currently serving as Director at the New York State Department of Health since April 2023, Gianne previously held the role of Deputy Director for the Communicable Disease Control Program. In academia, Gianne serves as an Adjunct Professor at Hofstra University School of Health Professions and Human Services, instructing courses in Human Sexuality and Health Promotion. Gianne's experience also includes the role of Associate Program Director and HIV Prevention Program Manager at The Institute for Family Health, overseeing HIV prevention services from March 2021 to June 2023. Prior experience includes work as a Health Educator for Northwell Health and as a Care Coordinator at NYC Health + Hospitals. Gianne holds a Master of Public Health degree from Hofstra University and completed a fellowship in the Sex Education Initiative at Teachers College, Columbia University.
