Mary Houtmann Rulien

Mary Houtmann Rulien is an experienced communications professional currently serving as Lead Communications Strategist at NextEra Energy, Inc. since August 2023. Prior to this role, Rulien was a Spokesperson at the Office of the Director of National Intelligence from April 2022 to August 2023. Previous experience includes positions as a Public Affairs Specialist at the U.S. Department of Homeland Security, a Communications Associate at the Congressional Budget Office, and a Communications Specialist with the U.S. Air Force. Rulien also worked as a Lead NATA BOC Certified Athletic Trainer for the US Navy. Educational qualifications include a Master’s of Professional Studies in Public Relations & Corporate Communications from Georgetown University School of Continuing Studies, and dual Bachelor of Science degrees in Athletic Training and Biology from West Chester University of Pennsylvania and Millersville University of Pennsylvania.
