Providing health services in Iran's petroleum industry has existed since the advent of this industry in Iran and has a history as old as this industry itself. After the nationalization of the petroleum industry and the establishment of the National Iranian Oil Company (NIOC), providing health services was done through one of the sub-managements of this company.
In 1998, the Oil Industry Health Services Company was established as an independent organization authorized by the NIOC, and is currently known as the Oil Industry Health and Medical Services Department of Iran's Oil Industry. According to the company's statutes, it is responsible for providing health and medical services to all employees and their families from four major companies, including the National Iranian Oil Company, the National Gas Company, the National Petrochemical Industries Company, and the National Iranian Oil Refining and Distribution Company, as well as their subsidiaries.
At present, this organization provides services in fifteen geographical regions, including Ahvaz, Abadan, Aghajari, Gachsaran, Bushehr province, Masjid Suleiman, Tehran, Isfahan, Markazi, Lorestan, North, North-west, North-east, West, Fars, Hormozgan, and Mashhad. These services are offered through 9 hospitals, 1 clinic, 23 polyclinics, 58 family clinics, 94 occupational health clinics, and 124 medical centers.
The NIOC Central hospital is the largest hospital owned by the ministry of petroleum. This hospital was established in 1956, starting with 120 beds and currently with 238 active beds, providing a wide range of services for the National Iranian Oil Company (NIOC) workers. The NIOC Central Hospital provides services within many wards, including the Emergency ward, Surgical, Internal Medicine, Obstetrician, Pediatrics, Oncology, ٍ Neurology, Endoscopy, Angiography, Physiotherapy, Nuclear Medicine, NICU, OHICU, SICU, MICU, CCU, Post CCU and Imaging ward.
