Rudi Gaum is a Senior Geomatics Designer at NovAtel, focusing on the design of precision GNSS Positioning and Inertial Navigation systems for safety-critical applications since May 2020. Previously, Rudi worked at S-PLANE Automation (Pty) Ltd for nearly a decade, holding roles including Senior Systems Engineer for commercial aircraft automation projects that converted aircraft into Optionally Piloted Vehicles, and Specialist Engineer integrating hardware and software with control algorithms for unmanned platforms. Rudi's expertise extends to leading the technical design of flight control systems and conducting HIL simulations. Earlier experience includes positions at Stellenbosch University and CSIR, focusing on unmanned systems research and flight control system development. Rudi holds a Master of Science in Electronic Engineering and a Bachelor of Engineering in Electrical and Electronic Engineering, both from Stellenbosch University.
