Simon Katan is a seasoned software engineer and educator with extensive experience in both academic and industry settings. Currently serving as a Senior Software Engineer at Oak National Academy since July 2023, Simon previously held positions as a Consultant Developer and Product Manager at 448 Studio, where a product discovery plan for a £250k Innovate project was delivered, and as Software Product Engineering Lead at Kano World, leading a cross-functional team to achieve key business goals. As the Founder of Handl Education Ltd, Simon raised £10,000 in research funding and developed prototypes that reached 700 learners. Simon's academic tenure at Goldsmiths, University of London spanned nearly a decade, culminating in roles as Senior Lecturer and Director of Undergraduate Studies in the Department of Computing. Simon holds a Ph.D. in Music Technology from Brunel University London and has contributed to machine learning research and creative coding as a developer, gaining international recognition through various artistic commissions and a Prix Ars Electronica Honourable Mention in 2013.
