Giles Turner has a diverse and extensive work experience in the rail industry. Giles began their career in 1986 as an Engineering Management Trainee at British Rail, where they later became a Senior Technical Officer. In 1991, they joined Eurostar as an Assistant Technical Engineer. Turner then transitioned to the HM Railway Inspectorate in 1998, serving as an HM Inspector of Railways until 2006. Subsequently, they joined the Office of Rail and Road (ORR), where they held various roles including Engineer, Rail Vehicles, Senior Engineer, Rail Vehicles, and currently holds the position of Head of Interoperability and Rail Vehicle Engineering. Additionally, from 2017 to 2019, they worked at the European Union Agency for Railways as a Project Officer. With their diverse experience and expertise, Turner has gained valuable insights and knowledge in the rail industry.

Giles Turner obtained a Bachelor of Engineering in Mechanical Engineering (Total Technology) from Imperial College London from 1987 to 1990. In 1999, they completed a Postgraduate Diploma in Health and Safety from Aston University. Additionally, they obtained the certification of CEng MIMechE from the Institution of Mechanical Engineers in 1995.
