New Product Introduction Engineer at Onera Health

Maria Karapetkova has a diverse range of work experience in various engineering roles. Maria is currently working at Onera Health as a New Product Introduction Engineer since 2023. Prior to this, they were at Micronit from 2018 to 2023, where they held positions as a Senior Process Development Engineer and an R&D Process Engineer. In these roles, they were responsible for the design and development of processes for microfluidic device fabrication, as well as the optimization and improvement of R&D processes. Maria also worked at Optotune as an Associate Engineer and Product Development Intern in 2017, where they specialized in actuator technology and materials science. Maria started their career at the Biomaterials Science Center at the University of Basel, where they were a Master Thesis Student specializing in the preparation and characterization of nanometer-thin, multilayer, dielectric elastomer actuators. Maria also gained research experience as a Research Assistant at the Johns Hopkins School of Medicine, where they collaborated on projects and performed surgery on live animals.

Maria Karapetkova completed their high school education at the American College of Sofia from 2005 to 2010, earning a high school diploma. Maria then attended The Johns Hopkins University from 2010 to 2014, where they obtained a Bachelor of Science (BS) degree in Biomedical/Medical Engineering. Following that, they pursued a Master of Science (M.Sc.) degree in Bioengineering and Biomedical Engineering at ETH Zürich from 2014 to 2016. In addition to their formal education, Maria acquired several certifications, including Essentials of Entrepreneurship: Thinking & Action, Intelligent Machining, and Nanotechnology and Nanosensors, Part1, from Coursera Certified Courses in 2020.
