Tyler Ralston

CTO at ONI

Tyler Ralston is the CTO at ONI, a position they have held since May 2021. Prior to that, they were the Co-founder and Chief Technology Officer at Tesseract Health from January 2018 to May 2021. During their time at Tesseract, Tyler was instrumental in securing $20M in Series-B funding (2019) and $49M in Series-C funding (2020) for 4Bionics, a universal ophthalmic imaging device with multiple modalities for molecular and structural contrast. In 2021, Tyler helped secure $80M+ in Series-B funding for Tesseract (oversubscribed), which will be used to commercialize innovations towards clinical trials and manufacturing for a patient operated device with a mobile device application and web interface.

At Tesseract, Tyler was responsible for building and coordinating high-performance teams working on optics, mechanics, electronics, embedded software, iOS, cloud computing, machine learning, commercialization, marketing, clinical operations, regulatory affairs, and manufacturing. Tyler also developed the compute processing architecture using python, C++, and FPGA processing for OCT processing, dispersion correction, affine and projective geometries, and solutions for 3rd to 5th order polynomial fits in 1D and 2D. Additionally, Tyler initiated and organized the team responsible for developing a line-field scanning architecture for parallel 3D retinal imaging using white light and autofluorescence.

In terms of medical imaging, Tyler has experience with 510(k) submissions to the FDA, QMS requirements, safety standards (ANSI Z80), and IRB approvals. Tyler has also performed competitive analysis, specification comparisons and market surveys, KOL input, and served as the PI for collaborations at medical institutions. Lastly, Tyler initiated development of machine learning algorithms for automating the identification and staging of diabetic retinopathy, glaucoma, and macular edema. Tyler is currently the PI for a project with the UK Biobank.

Tyler Ralston is currently pursuing a MS/PhD in Electrical and Computer Engineering at the University of Illinois Urbana-Champaign. Tyler previously completed their BS in Electrical and Computer Engineering at the University of Dayton.

They work with Christine Nishiyama - VP Operations, Ricardo Nunes Bastos - Director Of Business Development, and Sophia Mowla - Chief Growth Officer. Tyler Ralston reports to Bo Jing, CEO.

ONI is a pioneer of next generation super-resolution microscopy, making this advanced technology accessible to new generations of researchers. The Nanoimager, the world's first benchtop sized super-resolution microscope, delivers a step change in usability and precision. The microscope offers easy access to a range of super-resolution techniques including dSTORM and PALM, as well as smFRET, single-particle tracking and confocal. The company's achievements have been recognised by FastTrack100 who named ONI on their 2018 list of 10 Disruptors to Watch and ONI won Best Business Start-up at the 2018 IOP Awards. More and more life science researchers and pharma companies are taking an interest in ONI and it now has customers using its products in leading laboratories across the globe, including the Universities of Oxford, Cambridge and Harvard. ONI has a restless enthusiasm to make the world a better place. Our ambition is to bring super-resolution fluorescence imaging to a new community of researchers and we are removing barriers to make science more effective, accessible and affordable. We have a vision for making high tech science available to anyone, anywhere, from the research bench to your doctor’s office.
