Andrés Lagar-Cavilla is a distinguished engineer at Google, where expertise includes leadership in Platform Security and systems software. Since May 2014, Andrés has contributed significantly in various roles, including Principal Engineer and Senior Staff Software Engineer. Additionally, Andrés serves on the Incubation Committee as the Security Representative for the Open Compute Project Foundation from August 2021. Prior to Google, Andrés co-founded GridCentric Inc., a virtualization startup, and held a senior research position at AT&T Labs focusing on systems software and security. Andrés began an academic career as a PhD student and research assistant at the University of Toronto, studying under Prof. Eyal de Lara, and has also worked as a visiting researcher at Carnegie Mellon University. Educational qualifications include a PhD in Computer Science from the University of Toronto and a BEng in Computer Systems from Universidad Nacional del Sur.
