Lee Byron

Lee Byron is a seasoned technology professional currently serving as a Member of Technical Staff at OpenAI, focusing on Applied AI and leading the Canvas team since May 2024. As the Founder and Executive Director of the GraphQL Foundation since November 2018, Lee leads the technical steering committee and chairs the board. Previous roles include Product Engineering Lead at Watershed, where efforts concentrated on climate change mitigation, and Senior Engineering Manager at Robinhood, overseeing a major developer infrastructure initiative. Prior experience includes significant contributions at Facebook, where Lee co-created GraphQL and led various engineering teams, along with design-focused roles at The New York Times and IBM. Lee holds dual degrees in Industrial and Product Design and Human Computer Interaction from Carnegie Mellon University.
