Tom Dietterich

Distinguished Professor (emeritus) at Oregon State University

Tom Dietterich is a distinguished expert in the field of machine learning, currently serving as Chief Scientist at BigML, Inc since January 2011, and as a Distinguished Professor Emeritus at Oregon State University since January 1985. At Oregon State University, Tom has led various service roles, including involvement with arXiv and DARPA ISAT. Their areas of research encompass uncertainty quantification, anomaly detection, automated data quality control, and robust AI. Previous positions include Chief Scientist roles at Decho Corp. (2008), Pi Corporation (2006-2008), and MusicStrands, Inc. (2004-2005), along with a Senior Scientist role at Arris Pharmaceutical (1991-1993). Tom earned a PhD in Computer Science from Stanford University and holds an MS from the University of Illinois Urbana-Champaign, along with an AB in Mathematics from Oberlin College.
