Richard Alther has over 30 years of work experience in various roles, starting with their current position as a Senior Software Engineer at Owl Cyber Defense since April 2021. Prior to that, they worked at IBM for 24 years, starting as an I/T Specialist from January 1996 to February 2004, and then transitioning to a Software Engineer from February 2004 to June 2020. Before joining IBM, Richard served in the Connecticut Air National Guard as a Computer Communications specialist from March 1992 to September 1996. Richard began their career in the US Air Force as a Law Enforcement officer from December 1988 to March 1992.
Richard Alther earned a Bachelor of Arts (BA) degree in Computer Science from Western Connecticut State University, where they studied from 1992 to 1996. Richard later obtained several certifications, including "Architectural Thinking" from IBM in January 2020, "Think Like a Hacker" from IBM in July 2019, "Security and Privacy by Design Foundations" from IBM in June 2019, and "IBM Security Essentials for Architects" from IBM in December 2017.
