Stephen Barkby is a highly experienced professional in the field of robotics and software engineering, currently serving as Principal Software Engineer - Perception and Tracking at Oxa since January 2020. With a progressive career, Stephen has held various engineering positions including Senior Engineer at Oxbotica and Lead Robotics Researcher at Sharp Laboratories of Europe, where responsibilities included setting up a new robotics group and leading collaborative projects. Stephen's background includes developing advanced navigation and mapping systems for robotic vacuums at Dyson and significant contributions to autonomous underwater vehicle operations during a PhD at the Australian Centre for Field Robotics. Stephen holds a PhD in Deep Sea Robotics, as well as degrees in Mechatronics and Physics from the University of Sydney.
