Assay Development Scientist I/ii

Full-time · Austin, United States

Job description

At Pattern Bioscience, we’re tackling antibiotic resistance, one of the biggest public health challenges of our time.  Our technology rapidly identifies bacterial infections and predicts the most effective antibiotics to treat the infection. We’re building direct-from-specimen phenotypic rapid ID/AST assays using live cells on our proprietary instrument and consumable platform.

We are looking for an Assay Development Scientist to lead design transfer activities and ensure that new technological designs are smoothly implemented, scaled up, and validated. We are looking for a scientist who has strong writing skills, a dedication to careful experimentation, and a passion for working at the interface between research, manufacturing, microbiology, and clinical teams. Through your work, you will be a key member in the future development and commercialization efforts of our organization.

Initial Goals

  • Own experiments and documentation related to design transfer, verification, and validation of our lead assay
  • Guide and execute GLP studies for our lead assay

How You Will Contribute

  • Plan, coordinate, execute, and analyze experiments in a BSL-2 lab in support of optimizing assays
  • Use data and analysis to support scientific decisions and to communicate to other teams
  • Help set process parameters for more robust manufacturing
  • Lead the design control documentation process

We'd Love to Hear from You if You

  • Plan, execute, and analyze complex experiments, probing for insightful conclusions
  • Tell cohesive scientific stories through data and analysis
  • Clearly and succinctly communicate (oral, written, and presentation) within your team
  • Pay close attention to the specifics and generate accurate, precise, and thorough outputs
  • Demonstrate the pursuit of excellence and expertise in your domain
  • Embrace problems outside of your knowledge base
  • Prioritize and contextualize plans and decisions in a way that others understand the “why” of what they’re doing
  • Engage in collaborative and creative problem-solving

Desired Education and Experience

  • Ph.D. with 1+ years; M.S. with 3+ years; or B.S. with 5+ years in assay research & development under design control.
  • Degree in Biochemistry, Biomedical Engineering, Microbiology, Molecular Biology, Chemistry, or other related scientific discipline
  • Experience with process development, guard-band testing, and protocol and report writing for assays
  • Experience with assay product lifecycle including supporting a pre-sub or 510(k) submission and/or commercialization of one or more assays, a plus
  • Experience with infectious disease assays, especially AST, a plus
