Xiaoyu (Shawn) Ma has a strong background in technology and software engineering. Xiaoyu (Shawn) worked as a CTO in the APAC Region for PingCAP since February 2022. Before that, starting in February 2017, they were a Senior Technical Director at PingCAP, where they led the development team for the HTAP product. Xiaoyu (Shawn) designed and developed TiDB's HTAP engines, such as TiFlash and TiSpark, making TiDB a leading product in the HTAP category.
Prior to joining PingCAP, Xiaoyu worked as a Principal Engineer at Wanda Networks in 2016. At NetEase, they were a Senior Software Engineer and Technical Lead from May 2015 to August 2016. Xiaoyu (Shawn) managed the Hadoop platform and developed various projects related to Hadoop, Hive, Spark, and streaming.
Before NetEase, Xiaoyu worked at Quantcast from April 2013 to April 2015. Xiaoyu (Shawn) served as a Tech Lead for the SQL platform, designing, developing, and maintaining a system similar to Hive. Xiaoyu (Shawn) also worked as a Software Engineer on big data platforms during their time at Quantcast.
Xiaoyu began their career as a student at UC Irvine from September 2011 to March 2013. Xiaoyu (Shawn) volunteered as an English teacher for Our Free Sky from February 2010 to July 2011.
Xiaoyu (Shawn) gained early experience at IBM, Global Business Services, where they worked as an IT Specialist from February 2007 to February 2010. Xiaoyu (Shawn) was a key contributor in Manufacturing Automation and led a team of five in Block Controller projects.
Xiaoyu started their career as a Software Engineer at China Mobile in August 2006, where they worked until February 2007.
Xiaoyu (Shawn) Ma pursued their education in computer science, specializing in software engineering. Xiaoyu (Shawn) completed a Bachelor's degree in Software Engineering at Tongji University from 2002 to 2006. Building upon their undergraduate studies, they then earned a Master's degree in Computer Science from UC Irvine between 2011 and 2013.
