Danielle Ramo

Scientific Advisory Board Member at Pivot

Dr. Danielle Ramo is a licensed clinical psychologist and Director of Research Operations at Hopelab, a social innovation lab making digital tools to support adolescent health and emotional well-being. She is also Adjunct Associate Professor in the Department of Psychiatry and the Helen Diller Family Comprehensive Cancer Center at UC San Francisco, where she conducts research at the intersection of teen substance use and digital health.

Dr. Ramo came to Hopelab after six years on the faculty of UCSF’s Department of Psychiatry. She has led multiple clinical trials testing the efficacy of social media-mediated treatment to reduce substance use, as well as studies examining the toxicology of vaping in adolescents and tobacco and marijuana co-use in a changing policy landscape. Dr. Ramo has published more than 65 peer-reviewed papers and multiple book chapters in the areas of substance use and mental health among young people, and she has received grants from the National Institute on Drug Abuse, the National Institute on Minority Health and Health Disparities, and the California Tobacco-Related Diseases Research Program.

In addition to her work with Carrot, Dr. Ramo serves on the Scientific Advisory Board of the Being Adept prevention intervention program and regularly speaks to teens, parents, and school administrators throughout the Bay Area about adolescent substance abuse. She obtained a Bachelor of Arts from Columbia University; doctoral training at the University of California, San Diego, and San Diego State University; and postdoctoral training in the Department of Psychiatry at UCSF.
