Ian Smith has extensive experience in the engineering field, working in various roles and companies throughout their career. Ian began their career at GE Power, where they worked as a Generator Requisition Engineer and later as a Generator Application Engineer. In these roles, they were responsible for coordinating engineering functions and delivering technical documentation for projects.
Ian then joined Atlas Copco, where they held multiple positions including Project Engineer, Technical Services Manager, and Project Manager. In these roles, they managed engineering projects, oversaw technical service operations, and coordinated with various teams to ensure project execution. Ian also played a key role in developing new procedures and implementing process improvements.
After their time at Atlas Copco, Ian worked at Ceres Technologies as a Project Manager, where they directly managed project development and coordinated tasks with team members and stakeholders.
Most recently, Ian worked at Espey Mfg. & Electronics Corp. as a Program Manager, where they were responsible for managing programs and ensuring their successful completion.
Currently, Ian is employed at Plug Power as a Senior Mechanical Engineer in the Hydrogen division.
Ian Smith attended SUNY Schenectady County Community College from 1992 to 1995, where they earned an Associates in Applied Science degree in Material Science Technology. From 1995 to 1997, they attended SUNY Polytechnic Institute and obtained a Bachelor of Science (B.S.) degree in Mechanical Engineering Technology.
In terms of additional certifications, Ian earned their Six Sigma Green Belt (CSSGB) from GE Power in February 2001. Ian also obtained a certification in Design for Six Sigma from GE Power in February 2002.
