Kai Horstmann is a graduate researcher at the Process-Energy-Environmental Systems Engineering (PEESE) Lab, focusing on custom machine learning and natural language processing models for analyzing chemical research literature. Previous experience includes internships at Amazon Web Services and Amazon, where software development engineering skills were honed through creating APIs and enhancing user experiences. Kai has also contributed as a teaching assistant for multiple computer science courses at Cornell University's Ann S. Bowers College of Computing and Information Science, providing support in natural language processing and large-scale machine learning systems. Additionally, Kai served as a research and development analyst for Cornell DEBUT, developing a novel biomedical device for amputees. Educational background includes a Bachelor's degree in Mathematics and Computer Science from Cornell University, complemented by leadership experience as the Chief Technical Officer of Sublime Software LLC, developing a mobile app for clothing alerts.

We are an interdisciplinary Systems Engineering and Data Science research group. Our research focuses on advanced computational models, optimization algorithms, statistical machine learning methods, and multi-scale systems and data analytics tools for smart manufacturing, digital agriculture, quantum computing, energy systems, and sustainability. The research work at Process-Energy-Environmental Systems Engineering (PEESE) lab provides a balance between theory, computation and real world applications.
