Project 90 by 2030

Project 90 by 2030 is a social and environmental justice organisation inspiring and mobilising South African society towards a sustainably developed and equitable low-carbon future. We started work at a time in South Africa when the impacts of climate change were becoming increasingly evident, with very few solution-focused initiatives in operation in the country. From the onset, our founders saw the need to tackle the climate change challenge head-on. We work with stakeholders and decision makers to identify policies and actions that support climate justice; with a specific focus on developing environmental leadership in our youth, and increasing people’s ability to engage government – through active public participation – to address climate change, energy poverty, and the social injustices that intersect in their communities. Over the last 16 years of our existence, we have undertaken numerous projects with great success, and established ourselves within the CSO sector and as facilitator between communities and local authorities. We capacitated communities, youth, CSOs and CBOs, delivered well-researched studies and gave impetus to the movement towards a Just Energy Transition. Over the last 16 years, Project 90 has been working with Misereor and other foundations, international funders and research institutions such as e.g. the World Resource Institute, Oxfam, the European Union, and the Foundation for Human Rights.
