Brian Helmuth

Chief Science Officer at Proteus Ocean Group

Brian Helmuth serves as the Chief Science Officer at Proteus Ocean Group since February 2022 and holds a position as a Professor with a joint appointment in the Department of Marine and Environmental Sciences and the School of Public Policy at Northeastern University, where roles have been undertaken since January 2013. Brian Helmuth is a core faculty member of the NU Global Resilience Institute and has contributed to the National Sea Grant Advisory Board at NOAA from March 2015 to October 2023, including roles as Vice Chair, Chair, and Past Chair. Previous academic positions include serving as an Instructor in the Three Seas East West Marine Biology Program and a Professor and Director of the Environment and Sustainability Program at the University of South Carolina. Early career experience includes a Research Associate role at Stanford University. Brian Helmuth earned a PhD in Zoology from the University of Washington, an MS in Marine Biology from Northeastern University, and a BS in Biology from Cornell University.
