Alan Franks has over 30 years of professional experience in software engineering. Alan began their career in 1989 as a Software Engineer at Data General. In 1994, they became a Senior Member of Scientific Staff at Bell Northern Research, where they designed and implemented a service order and provisioning framework and class libraries in Protel II for Northern Telecom's DMS-100 switching system. Alan also developed new telephony services in Protel II and prototyped services in Smalltalk targeting GSF simulation environment. In 1996, they joined BroadBand Technologies, Inc. as a Senior Software Engineer. In 1999, they moved to Nortel Networks as a Senior Member of Scientific Staff. From 2002 to 2004, they worked at Beckmann Technologies as a Senior Software Engineer, where they designed and developed embedded software and Windows application software for the BlueLink automotive diagnostic interface. Alan then joined Synopsys, Inc. as a Senior R&D Engineer II, where they designed and developed new features and performance enhancements for IC Validator's PXL runset language. In 2012, they became a Senior Software Designer at Nehemiah Security, where they developed new features, performance improvements and bug fixes for AtomicEye product. Since 2019, they have been working as a Principal Software Engineer at Protochips.

Alan Franks attended West Virginia Wesleyan College from 1985 to 1989, where they earned a Bachelor of Science in Computer Science.
