Alan Quilter

Group Head, Program Management at Randall & Quilter Investment Holdings Ltd

Alan is the co-founder and the Group CEO of R&Q.

A qualified Chartered Accountant, Alan has worked in the London insurance market for over fifty years, initially in senior Treasury and Finance roles at the Corporation of Lloyd’s and as the Group Finance Director of a Lloyd’s Underwriting Agency.

In early 1992, Alan joined Ken Randall in founding the Randall Group and assumed the role of Group Chief Financial Officer. Over the next eight years they grew the business and in particular its principal subsidiary Eastgate Group Ltd, which became the UK’s largest third party provider of insurance services with 1,300 employees and a turnover of over £80m p.a. Eastgate was sold to Capita plc in November 2000.

Since then, Alan and Ken have built R&Q into a leading acquirer of discontinued non-life business in the London and international insurance markets and a provider of A- rated global program capacity for MGAs and their reinsurers in both the U.S. and Europe.

In 2018-19, Alan – in his role as Group Finance Director – led a number of substantial equity and debt fundraises which provided the cornerstones for a significant transformation in R&Q’s strategy. He also oversaw the successful sale of a number of non-core operations which realised substantial funds to further fuel its growth.

The Group is now focussed on two core activities; its long-standing legacy acquisitions business and, separately, the provision of program underwriting services to MGAs in Europe and the U.S. Alan has overseen the latter’s development which has seen the Group, reacting swiftly to a changing market dynamic, become the fastest-growing provider of such services.
