Jim Lafferty has extensive work experience in operations and quality management spanning over several companies. Jim started their career at Lawrence Pumps, Inc. in 1985 as an Engineer and Quality Manager. Jim then moved to Neslab Instruments Inc. in 1993 where they served as the Director of Manufacturing and Quality, responsible for managing a multi-shift manufacturing operation and advancing the Quality System to achieve ISO 9001 certification. In 1998, they joined EG&G as a Quality Manager. Jim then joined American Science and Engineering, Inc. in 2001, initially as a Vice President of Quality, then as the Vice President of Sustaining Engineering and Quality from 2012 to 2013. From 2013 to 2016, they served as the Vice President of Operations and Quality at the same company. Lastly, they joined Rapid Micro Biosystems in 2016 as the Vice President of Operations and Quality.
Jim Lafferty has a Bachelor's Degree in Mechanical Engineering from Worcester Polytechnic Institute. In 2015, they obtained an Executive Certificate in Technology, Operations, and Value Chain Management from MIT Sloan School of Management. In 2013, they also became Lean Bronze Certified through SME.
