Mark Peternell

VP, Sustainability at Regency Centers

Under Mark’s leadership, Regency has developed a successful track record implementing sustainability initiatives that measurably reduce the environmental impact, reduce operating expenses, and add value to the company’s real estate portfolio. Mark’s commitment and guidance are seen in the company’s steady improvement in five key areas – green building certifications, energy efficiency, water conservation, waste reduction, and renewable energy.

Previously, Mark worked for Forest City Enterprises, where he managed the development of the company’s retail portfolio in Denver, CO, including the first open-air lifestyle center to achieve LEED certification.

Mark served as a member of the U.S. Green Building Council’s LEED for Retail Committee and is a current member of the International Council of Shopping Centers Environmental Committee and Real Estate Roundtable’s Sustainability Policy Advisory Committee.

He holds a Master of Business Administration with a concentration in real estate, in addition to a Master of Science and Bachelor of Arts in environmental studies from the University of Colorado in Boulder. Outside of work, Mark enjoys a variety of outdoor activities, including running, biking, skiing, and fly-fishing, as well as spending time with his wife and two small children.
