Jim Balhoff is an experienced professional who has worked in various capacities in the field of bioinformatics and data science. With a Ph.D. in Biology from Duke University, Jim has held roles such as Assistant Director of Analytics and Data Science at Renaissance Computing Institute, Senior Research Scientist at the same institute, Bioinformatics Specialist at RTI International, and Bioinformatics Specialist at NESCent. Prior to these positions, Jim worked as a phylogenetic consultant and postdoctoral fellow at Duke IGSP after completing a B.S. in Zoology from Louisiana State University.

RENCI partners with researchers, policy makers, and technology leaders to engage and solve the challenging problems that affect North Carolina, our nation, and the world. An institute of the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill, RENCI was launched in 2004 as a collaborative effort involving UNC Chapel Hill, Duke University, and North Carolina State University.
