Derek Fields

Derek Fields has a diverse work experience spanning multiple companies and roles. Derek served as the Atlassian Project Manager at RightStar Systems, where they managed the deployment, configuration, and consultation of various Atlassian projects. Prior to that, they worked at Interactions LLC as a Project Manager, providing support to the Automated Speech Recognition and Natural Language Processing teams. Derek introduced Jira with different processes for different teams. At Ericsson, Derek held the position of Director of Project Management, leading pre-sales bid and proposal teams and providing Agile coaching. In their role as Principal Project Manager at Telcordia Technologies, they managed complex OSS bids, consistently delivering winning proposals. Derek also held positions as a Solution Consultant and Director of Next Generation Software Architecture.

Derek Fields completed their Bachelor of Arts degree in Political Science at Grinnell College from 1977 to 1981. Derek then pursued a Master of Arts degree in Political Science at Rutgers University from 1981 to 1982.

In addition to their formal education, Derek has obtained several certifications. These include being a Certified SAFe 5 Program Consultant from Scaled Agile, Inc. in June 2020, earning the Advanced Jira Workflows Badge (ACB-AJW), Atlassian Skills Badge: Email in Jira (ASB-EMJ), Jira Administrator, and Agile Development with JIRA Software certifications from Atlassian in 2018 and 2017. Derek also holds a Project Management Professional (PMP) certification from the Project Management Institute, which they obtained in April 2015. Additionally, they are a Certified Scrum Master from the Scrum Alliance, earned in February 2015. Lastly, Derek completed the G2G3 DevOps Simulation Trainer program provided by G2G3 (part of Capita plc), although the specific month and year of completion are not provided.
