R.J. Burnside & Associates
In June 2017 Ian Drever, P.Eng. became the President of R.J. Burnside & Associates Limited. In this role, Ian is responsible for the maintenance and growth of both the public and private sector portions of their business, as well as the leadership of their Senior Management Team, talent management and staff development and communications at Burnside.
Ian started his career at Burnside in 1988, working primarily on land development projects in the Orangeville area. In 1993, Ian took on the role of Branch Manager for their new Brampton office, Burnside’s first entry into the GTA. While Ian’s focus continued to be on growing their land development team and client base, he also gained experience on select projects within the public and aboriginal sectors. For the past 15 years, Ian has served in a senior leadership role most recently as Executive Vice President for the Private Sector Client Group. During that time, Ian has been involved in a wide variety of projects for a number of notable clients including Mattamy Homes, Great Gulf Homes, Sithe Energy, Sorbara Group, and Woodbine Entertainment Group to name a few.
More recently, Ian has developed particular knowledge and expertise with the Development Charges Act. Ian has qualified as an expert witness on water and wastewater servicing matters before the Ontario Municipal Board (now Local Planning Appeal Tribunal), speaking specifically to Development Charges matters. Through Ian’s work and advice, a number of clients have also been able to successfully settle many servicing issues prior to hearings.
Ian’s enjoyment of sports and interest in community led to his decade long involvement with boys and girls minor hockey in the Fergus area, where he acted as manager, trainer, assistant coach and coach of several minor hockey teams. As a founding Director, Ian played an instrumental role in the formation of the Grand River Mustangs Girls Hockey Association, which now boasts over 400 registrants competing at all levels. Ian has also participated on committees at the municipal level in the Township of Centre Wellington and City of Brampton. He is an active member of the Peel Chapter of BILD.
Ian’s spare time is largely filled with sports pursuits, with hockey, football and baseball being most prevalent. Ian is an avid golfer and skier, but can also be found hiking, cycling and playing tennis on occasion.
