New Manila International Airport (NMIA)
San Miguel Aerocity Inc. (SMAI) is a wholly-owned subsidiary of San Miguel Holdings Corp., the infrastructure arm of San Miguel Corporation.  Last September 2019, it signed a concession agreement with the Republic of the Philippines, represented by the Department of Transportation, to develop, construct, operate, and maintain the New Manila International Airport (NMIA).  This was followed by the enactment of Republic Act 11506, granting a legislative franchise to SMAI for a domestic and international airport in the Municipality of Bulakan, which took effect on January 15, 2021.

About the project

The New Manila International Airport project is a game-changer for the Philippines, a world class airport that will be developed in phases, with an initial capacity of 35 million passengers annually, and a target of 100 million passengers per year, once fully-complete. 

As the single-largest investment in the country to date, it represents a long-term solution to air traffic congestion in the country’s capital, which has long hindered economic growth and compounded many transportation-related problems. It will provide safe, convenient, reliable, and efficient air transport services, in response to the Philippines’ urgent need for a new international gateway with sufficient capacity to serve present and future demand. It is positioned to serve Metro Manila as well as its neighboring regions of Central Luzon and the CALABARZON region in southern Luzon.    

The project will rise on an over 2,500-hectare property in Bulakan, Bulacan and will include various components such as airfield facilities, terminal building, airport and airline support facilities, access roads, parking facilities, utilities, airport city, and other ancillary facilities. It will easily be accessible from Metro Manila and Luzon provinces via a master planned infrastructure network.
