The PR Manager at SAOTA is responsible for developing and executing comprehensive communication strategies that enhance the brand's visibility and reputation across local and international media platforms. This role emphasizes relationship-building with media outlets, securing press coverage, and managing public relations initiatives to ensure a consistent and positive public image that aligns with SAOTA's values. The PR Manager also plays a crucial role in supporting the Head of Marketing and guiding the Marketing Coordinator.

Please note that only candidates currently residing in Cape Town will be considered for this role.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Press Strategy & Management:
    • Develop and execute an annual PR strategy for SAOTA, focusing on Design, Lifestyle, and Business media.
    • Maintain and update the Press Playbook with current PR strategies and processes.
    • Manage press materials, including writing and coordinating the approval of press releases and press packs.
    • Build and maintain comprehensive media lists, targeting top-tier and mass media outlets.
    • Establish media publicity agreements with clients per project, managing embargo statuses and informing the marketing team accordingly.
    • Devise and implement pitching strategies for media coverage, creating detailed pitching documents for each campaign or project.
    • Track, analyze, and report on media coverage using Vantage Point, leveraging analytics to measure the success of digital PR efforts and refine strategies.
  • Public Forums:
    • Collaborate with the Brand Manager to identify industry awards, events, and speaking opportunities that align with SAOTA's brand.
    • Negotiate and secure speaker and jury invitations for key industry events.
    • Prepare and submit award entries, ensuring all content meets submission requirements and deadlines.
    • Coordinate the completion of the WA100 Survey, working with various departments and principal members to gather and submit accurate responses.
  • Internal Communication:
    • Assist in coordinating the production of SAOTA's Quarterly Magazine, managing project timelines, proofreading content, and supporting the graphics team.
    • Submit relevant content related to press coverage and public forums for internal newsletters and updates.
  • Cross-Departmental Support:
    • Provide PR and media insights to other departments, contributing to the development and execution of campaigns, exhibitions, and events.
    • Support the Asset Producer in coordinating photoshoots, ensuring all elements are aligned with SAOTA’s brand standards.
    • Share content for the website, newsletters, and social media channels that highlight media coverage and public forum participation.
    • Handle copywriting responsibilities related to core duties, including press releases, press packs, awards submissions, and the Quarterly Magazine.

Key Requirements:

  • Relevant Diploma or Degree in Marketing or PR
  • 5 to 8 Years of experience in PR
  • Agency experience or in-house PR Manager experience
  • Proven track record of placing coverage in top tier media
  • Strong alignment with SAOTA’s values and culture
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office (Word, PowerPoint, Excel)
  • Familiarity with WordPress, Meltwater, Vantage Point, Power BI, and Mailchimp is advantageous
  • Excellent writing, relationship-building, and research skills
  • Highly organized with exceptional time management and attention to detail
  • Ability to work accurately and professionally under pressure
  • Proactive, self-disciplined, and a strong team player
  • Passion for media, marketing, and architecture industry knowledge is a plus
