Sciensano
Astha Tiwari is a Scientist at Sciensano since April 2023, having previously participated in the Boost program at the King Baudouin Foundation from September 2014 to December 2022, aimed at developing young talent from underprivileged backgrounds. Astha served as a Tutor at Studant vzw from November 2020 to June 2022 and completed an internship at the ULB Center for Diabetes Research in early 2021, focusing on reprogramming diabetic patient cells for diabetes research. Astha participated in the UWC Austria Short Course on "(Re)Defining Equality" in July 2017, exploring various dimensions of equality. Astha holds a Master of Science in Biochemistry and Biotechnology from KU Leuven (2020-2022) and a Bachelor of Science in the same field from the same university (2017-2020), as well as a diploma in Science Mathematics from Meertalig Athenuem Woluwe (2011-2017).

Sciensano’s strength and uniqueness lie within the holistic and multidisciplinary approach to health. More particularly we focus on the close and indissoluble interconnection between human and animal health and their environment (the “One health” concept). By combining different research perspectives within this framework, Sciensano connects health, science and society. For this, Sciensano builds on the more than 100 years of scientific expertise of the former Veterinary and Agrochemical Research Centre (CODA-CERVA) and the ex-Scientific Institute of Public Health (WIV-ISP).
