Herman Van Oyen serves as the Scientific Director of Epidemiology and Public Health at Sciensano since April 2019, while also holding the position of Operational Director at the Scientific Institute of Public Health since January 2009. Educational qualifications include a Doctor of Public Health (DrPH) in Public Health and Epidemiology from The Johns Hopkins University, a Diploma of Tropical Medicine from the Prince Leopold Institute of Tropical Medicine in Antwerp, Belgium, and a Doctor of Medicine (M.D.) from Ghent University.
