Alexander Pollak

Science & Engineering Operations Manager at SETI Institute

Alexander Pollak is an experienced Science & Engineering Operations Manager at the SETI Institute since August 2019. Pollak has held the role of Winter-Over South Pole Telescope at the University of Chicago from November 2022 to December 2023, responsible for assembling and setting up scientific equipment, as well as testing and integrating various systems. Prior to this, Pollak served as a Postdoctoral Research Assistant in Instrumentation for Radio Astronomy at the University of Oxford from July 2018 to August 2019. Additional experiences include student placements in product management and asynchronous motor development at Festo Didactic and Ritz Pump Service Inc. respectively, along with early career work as an electrician for special machines at Beier + Seitz Elektrotechnik GmbH. Academically, Pollak earned a Ph.D. in Astrophysics from the University of Oxford, a B.Eng. in Mechatronics/Electrical Engineering from Hochschule Esslingen, and has a background in paramedic training and electrical technology.
