Sophia Zhu

Sophia Zhu is an experienced materials and corrosion engineer with a substantial background in quality assurance and technical consultancy in the oil and gas industry. From January 2015 to January 2023, Sophia held the position of Lead Wells Materials and Corrosion Engineer at Shell, where responsibilities included ensuring compliance with API/ISO standards, overseeing product quality from suppliers, and driving continuous improvement. Prior roles at Shell involved providing technical assurance for upstream and downstream capital projects and conducting failure analyses. Sophia began their career as a Post-Doctoral Research Fellow at the University of Michigan, focusing on the effects of microstructure and porosity on the fatigue behavior of cast aluminum and magnesium alloys for automotive applications. Academically, Sophia earned a Ph.D. and a Master's degree in Materials Science and Engineering from the University of Michigan.
