Jonathan Kua

Chief of Staff, Student Affairs Director & Admissions at Singapore University of Technology and Design

Jonathan has almost 30 years of experience in both public and private sectors. Prior to joining SUTD, he was Senior Vice President & Head, Group Sustainability at ST Engineering. He previously held roles in Group Strategy and Technology Planning.

Jonathan spent more than half his career with the Singapore Economic Development Board (EDB). He engaged with a diverse range of industries across multiple geographies including Electronics, Information & Communications Technology, Software, Engineering, Aerospace, Manufacturing Systems, Robotics, Chemicals, Materials, Consumer Products, Space, Education Services, Natural Resources, Environmental Technologies, Venture Capital, and Inter-Governmental & Non-Profit Organisations. He also spent six years helming EDB offices on both the east and west coasts of the USA.

Subsequently, Jonathan served in Singapore’s Agency for Science, Technology & Research (A*STAR), as Group Director, Industry Development. He brokered research and commercialisation partnerships between industry and Singapore’s scientific and medical research communities. He also led funding initiatives in support of industry-oriented research outcomes.

Jonathan was a recipient of the EDB-Glaxo Scholarship, as well as two Innovation Awards from Singapore’s Ministry of Trade and Industry (MTI). He previously served on the Boards of Singapore's National Volunteer & Philanthropy Centre and the National University of Singapore’s Tropical Marine Science Institute. He holds a BSc and MSc in Electrical and Computer Engineering from the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign.
