John Spann has worked in the field of silicon photonics for fiber optic communications since 2012, when they began as a Sr. Principal R&D Engineer at Skorpios Technologies, Inc. Prior to that, they worked at Emcore from 2005 to 2012, holding the roles of Principal Product Development Engineer and Senior Production Engineer. From 2004 to 2005, they worked at the Air Force Research Laboratory as a Space Scholar, where they irradiated low power silicon MESFETs and looked for degradation mechanisms caused by radiation. From 2000 to 2004, they worked as a Research/Teaching Assistant at Arizona State University, where they developed, built and tested r. f. micropower transistors.
John Spann completed their educational journey at Arizona State University, earning a BS in Electrical Engineering in 2000, an MS in Electrical Engineering in 2002, and a PhD in Electrical Engineering in 2005.
