Laura Kane has a diverse work experience in the energy sector. Laura began their career as a Civil and Structural Engineer with Atkins in 2008. Later, they worked as a Consultant and then a Smart Grid Analyst at Smarter Grid Solutions from 2014 to 2017. During this time, they were responsible for power systems analysis, business development, and consultancy services. In 2017, Laura joined CIGRE as a Working Group Member, focusing on planning coordination between system operators, transmitters, and distributors. Laura also pursued a PhD at the University of Strathclyde, researching power network access arrangements for wind power. Overall, Laura has experience in product management, product ownership, consultancy, analysis, and research in the power and energy sector.

From 2010 to 2014, Laura attended the University of Strathclyde, where they obtained a Doctor of Philosophy (Ph.D.) in Electronic and Electrical Engineering.
Prior to that, from 2004 to 2010, they also studied at the University of Strathclyde and earned an MEng degree in Building Design Engineering.
