Kelly Saunders is an experienced leader in training and development, currently serving as VP of Learning and Culture at Smashburger since April 2011, where significant initiatives include the design and implementation of a Learning Management System for approximately 7,000 users, achieving a notable increase in utilization. Prior to Smashburger, Kelly held the position of Regional Training Manager at AmRest Applebee's from 2006 to 2011, managing extensive training programs and developing succession plans for new managers. From 2000 to 2006, Kelly served as Dean of Quiznos University, where curriculum design and training delivery for franchise owners and managers were primary responsibilities. Kelly holds a Bachelor of Science degree in Human Resources and Family Services from the University of Nebraska-Lincoln.

A chain of “fast-casual” restaurants that sell fresh hamburgers, smoothies and salads. Founder Tom Ryan, who earned a PhD in flavor and fragrance chemistry from Michigan State, previously served as chief marketing officer at McDonald’s. Half of the company’s 250 restaurants are run by franchisees. The company recently opened locations in Costa Rica, Kuwait and Saudi Arabia. The name ‘Smashburger’ refers to the process of pressing a ball of ground beef on a grill to form a hamburger.
