Buddy Powers has over 40 years of experience in mechanical engineering, specializing in applications engineering and product development. Currently, as a Sr Applications Engineer in the International Division at Southwire Company since July 2007, Buddy Powers focuses on the development of flatwire to meet UL requirements, including compliance for GFCIs, defining new testing methods for low fire hazards, and establishing tripping algorithms to ensure low energy usage. Previously, as Chief Product Development Engineer at Southwire from 2000 to 2006, responsibilities included designing cable using non-halogen flame retardants, advancing medium voltage cable technologies, and enhancing high voltage transmission cables. Early experience includes a role as a Mechanical Engineer for Jacksonville Electric Authority from 1979 to 1980, managing projects for mechanical power plant components. Buddy Powers holds a Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering from the Georgia Institute of Technology, obtained in 1978.
