João Basto has had a diverse range of work experiences throughout their career. João recently held the position of New Ventures Director at Sovena Group, where they also served as the Managing Director of A. Centazzi Lda. Prior to this, they were the Managing Director for Asia-Pacific and the Middle East at Sovena Group. João has also held leadership roles at EDIA - Empresa Desenvolvimento e Infraestruturas de Alqueva, S.A., SIM, and H.J. HEINZ / HEINZSEED, where they were involved in strategic water reserve development, coffee roasting factory setup, and regional sales management in Europe and the Mediterranean Basin respectively. João also co-founded TERRAPROJECTOS, Lda and contributed to the project development for MANTERO, S.A. in various African countries.
João Basto holds a Master of Science in Agronomic Engineering from Instituto Superior de Agronomia, which they obtained from 1990 to 1996. João later pursued an MBA at Nova School of Business and Economics from 1997 to 1999. In 2014, João attended an Agribusiness Seminar at the Harvard Business School in Shanghai, China.
