Dimitri Palaz

Principal Research Scientist at Speech Graphics

Dimitri Palaz has extensive work experience in the field of research and machine learning. Dimitri started their career in 2011 as a Research Assistant at the Idiap Research Institute, where they worked until 2016. In 2015, they also had a brief stint as a Research Intern at Facebook.

In 2017, Dimitri joined Speech Graphics as a Research Engineer, where they worked until 2018. Dimitri then took on the role of Lead Research Engineer at the same company until 2020. Currently, they hold the position of Head of Machine Learning at Speech Graphics, starting from October 2020.

Throughout their career, Dimitri has focused on research and development in the field of machine learning, with particular expertise in areas such as speech and graphics.

Dimitri Palaz earned their Master of Science degree in Electrical and Electronics Engineering from EPFL (École polytechnique fédérale de Lausanne) in the years 2005 to 2011. Following this, they obtained their Doctor of Philosophy (Ph.D.) in Electrical Engineering from the same institution, completing their studies in the period of 2011 to 2016.

Speech Graphics spun out of the University of Edinburgh’s world-renowned School of Informatics in 2010 under the leadership of founders Michael Berger and Gregor Hofer, and game industry veteran Colin Macdonald.Speech Graphics has won several awards for its speech-driven animation technology, including the prestigious John Logie Baird Award for innovation, an LT-Innovate Award, a Santander Entrepreneurial Award, and game industry awards including a 2015 Develop Award for Best Creative Outsourcer and 2015 TIGA Award for Best Animation Supplier. The company has also received several development grants, including grants from Scottish Enterprise and the University of Abertay.
