Pat is a retired Early Elementary classroom teacher whose passion for reading began at a young age, fostered by trips with her mom to the Dunning-Hough library in Plymouth. She remembers looking forward to her mom bringing home Golden Book Encyclopedia volumes weekly from A&P and sitting down to read them cover to cover after school. That passion was conveyed to her students through the hundreds of books made available to them in her classroom and her contagious enthusiasm for daily storytime. Her best memories about teaching involve unlocking the secrets of reading and writing for her students and watching in wonder, every year, at their developing skills and increasing enthusiasm for sharing in her love of the printed word.
She has lived in Salem for 40+ years and continues to buy cookbooks, reading them front to back, like most people read novels. She maintains a large vegetable garden during the summer and has been a lifelong sewist. She is a member of the American Sewing Guild, Creative Clothing Club, and Greater Ann Arbor Area Quilt Guild. She is co-chair of the Plymouth/Canton ASG Neighborhood Group and works with the South Lyon Cultural Arts Commission by serving as the chairperson for the annual Quilt and FiberArts Show held at City Hall. She also enjoys helping to make a difference in the community by being a trustee on the Active Faith Board of Directors and is an active parishioner at St. Joseph Church in South Lyon. Babysitting their young grandson 2 days a week is one of the best things she does now and is thrilled that he has already developed a passion for books. The books that once filled her classroom now litter the entire downstairs of their house.
Pat loves working with the dedicated and talented library staff and fellow board members and hopes her experience will foster the further development of the beautiful library. She feels like she has come “full circle”.
